Dori Monson Suspended For Tweet

NorthwestBroadcasters — Dori Monson has been suspended indefinitely by Bonneville Seattle from hosting the Seahawks’ pregame and postgame radio shows after a tweet he sent Wednesday mocking the transgender community. Monson’s radio show was hosted today by Jason Rantz.

Monson sent the tweet Wednesday night during the Washington gubernatorial debate between Gov. Jay Inslee and Republican challenger Loren Culp.

Monson, who also hosts a daily show on KIRO Radio 97.3 FM from noon to 3 p.m., tweeted: “Inslee: we follow science in WA. The state where I could go to Olympia tomorrow and change my birth cert to say I was a girl on 10/2/61 HAHAHAHAHA.” SEATTLETIMES

Will some of the other KIRO hosts stand up against this? Seems there needs to be a new radio station for the voice of Christians and Patriots. It isn’t KIRO FM. We live in a cancel culture and the wrong people have the power to destroy good people. It seems America needs a cleansing. Read into that what you want. -Jason Remington

    1. Call KIRO- Ask to speak with the program director. Better yet, write to the KIRO program director. Check their website for contact info.

  1. “KMAG-FM Fort Smith, Arkansas host Darren Miner, known as Maverick on the air, has been fired after he posted a tweet . . .”

    https://radioink.com/2020/10/15/iheart-host-fired-over-tweet/?vgo_ee=H%2F0Ig3htZt7qH%2FNupOiNRXzOup0zXC6Am01SOsN5RL4%3D

I’m not commenting on the appropriateness of the tweet, nor of what prompted the tweet.

Every thoughtful comment and every thoughtless comment posted to the internet lives forever. Remember that guy who called those female athletes a bunch of nappy-headed hos? He made a lot of money for his employers, but he still got fired.

If you are older than the internet, you might remember being advised by your mother, teacher, boss, or the neighbor kid who bloodied your nose for making a comment about his sister,

    “Before you speak, THINK”
“Before you say anything, COUNT TO TEN”
“Before engaging mouth, BE SURE BRAIN IS IN GEAR”

    1. Imus called them nappy-headed hoes. Management has no sense of humor, afraid they may lose advertisers. No one has any balls these days.
      Hoes was a bit strong.

    1. That is what it boils down to, but the airwaves are not regulated by the Constitution, but by corporations, which are influenced by the cancel culture. So, who has the power?

      1. “So, who has the power?” We do! “We do? You mean us?” Damn right!!!

I’ve been drinking some good, mind-clearing beer and prowling the web for a definition or an explanation of cancel culture.

If I read this right, cancel culture is a phenomenon of social media in which someone who feels offended for any reason, personal or otherwise, justifiably or not, by something some other person/company/political entity/or ? did or said, purposely or not, goes on social media and insults, spreads rumors, makes blanket accusations, engages in name calling and/or generally or specifically tries to disparage and destroy the perceived offender’s character in ways that may be related or unrelated to the perceived offense . . . and then brags about it . . . on social media. Someone even likened cancel culture to a baby’s tantrum.

Dori Monson could have simply tweeted, “Governor Inslee, I’d like to have a phone conversation with you this week so that I and my listeners can better understand the argument you advanced in this evening’s debate. Please call any time. Thanks very much. Dori.”

Monson, with his “smart” tweet, practiced cancel culture, instead of having the courage to talk to someone with a different point of view.

Stay on social media and pout about being picked on or get off social media and return to a more normal life.

“Garçon, un de plus Jack’s 90, sil vous plaît.”

      2. We the People have the power to either support them by continuing to tune in…or do what I am doing which is boycotting KIRO and the NFL until they come to their senses!

        1. Not listening to KIRO, as a matter of course these days. Seahawks lost my attention a couple years ago when they started getting political.

  2. Science. We are bombarded with that word by the left concerning climate change every day. Yet the only “scientists” that are listened to are the ones with a political affiliation, those receiving government research grants, of have a book to plug. There are plenty of scientists, through facts and data, refute the “Climate Crisis” that we are bombarded with constantly through the media but hey don’t make for sensational headlines.

Dori’s tweet was simple. Jay Inslee is ALWAYS claiming the virtues of science yet ignores it when it comes to the human species and biology. It was NOT a Gay v Strait issue at all. It had It had nothing to do with sexual preference. The State of Washington allowing people to change their sex on legal ID’s based on how they feel and not on the science of biology was his point. Bonneville (owned by the LDS church) should support Dori and not cancel him. But we all know it is about advertising dollars in the media business.

A sad day for free speech.

    1. This whole thing is disgusting. The tweet was reality. Dori is not transphobic and has never said a disparaging statement about the group. If anything…this was just showing the hypocrisy of our idiot Governor Insleez in that his science he follows is a joke when you can literally go to Vital Statistics office and change your sex at birth! What is wrong with KIRO that they won’t support Dori? Adding KIRO to my list. NFL has lost all my support long ago.

  3. It’s not ok to have an opinion if it’s counter the cancel culture. How has it come to this? By the way, there were storm like the Columbus day storm and forest fire’s many centuries ago. Why now is it man made global warming. The earth goes through cycles. God help us if Yellowstone goes off or an astroid hits the earth again.

  4. Bad spelling and grammar is decreasing brain power, as more and more folks accept it!…As the late Vincent Bugliosi, a hero of mine, said “I worry about the future of our country, as what I call “creeping incompetence” is making serious inroads in all walks of life!”…..and I really dislike the overuse of the dreaded “emojis”, that are slowly eradicating the very need for spelling!

      1. So and uh I mean you like hear it too, right?, on uh cable news. Like, right, uh, so, I mean . . . #@*&

The old-time long-time professional broadcasters such as Andrea Mitchell, Wolf Blitzer, Lawrence O’Donnell, Brian Williams, John Dickerson, Bob Schieffer, Sam Donaldson, Margaret Brennan, Ted Koppel, Roger Mudd, Katy Tur, Dan Rather, Walter Cronkite, Huntley-Brinkley, Mike Wallace, Harry Reasoner, Howard K. Smith and other pros are innocent of this.

Don’t the bad ones ever listen to the good ones? Why do networks tolerate such slipshod delivery? What happened to taking pride in your product? This can’t be their best.

        1. I have a friend…not a kid…60ish. Nothing to do with broadcasting but a member of the public. One day he was complaining about the announcer reading the news on a local station. The announcer was a contemporary of mine and in my view far and away the best guy working for the local SAGA group. Deep, friendly voice, clear articulation and a pro who had won press awards. I asked my friend what he did not like…his answer was along the lines of “he sounds so much like an old fashioned radio announcer, a dinosaur.’ He wanted to hear someone with a style more like the kid running the check out in the grocery store….natural as he says. Me….I hate that style and feel like the valley girl dialect caught on. To me, in Seattle, it really got a foothold when Rob Tepper, the T Man, was a big deal at KUBE. Other than gross sexual content as a shock factor and being overtly rude he had little going for him and his articulation was like the guy in the grocery imitating Moon Zappa…..Gag me with a spoon. But I think that is what the public today wants….broadcasters who sound untrained.

          1. Steve,

Your buddy will love Chris Hayes of MSNBC, whose prepubescent vocal tones rise two octaves whenever he says something “important”, like, right, uh, so, I m-mean cuz ya know, right…..right?

  5. I strongly disagree with Doris post, but if he does not agree with Inslee, that IS his business. However , it does bother me that he has to attack gays. Sex change is one of the few things that I cannot see, but I have friends, family members and loved ones who are gay that they cannot do anything about it. So why does the right have to attack them? Because they are bullies. Also, not everybody believes in Christ and should not be forced too. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, right or wrong. I usually do not like Doris confrontational style, so I do not listen. But he should get his job back. I could be in danger of losing my job because of what I post on fakebook. THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY!
On another note. When uncle Ricky ran reelradio, he was informed by the IRS that the site could lose it,s tax exempt status if he and others continue to post political comments. I am not trying to hush anyone,s opinion, but would just hate to see the site lose it,s tax breaks.

    1. This site does not get tax breaks, is not a charity, and is in no danger of being canceled by the Left – or Right. (We get our support from our readers). We are not subject to censorship from any government entity, corporation, policymakers, or committee. There is no algorithm in our database that controls the opinions expressed here, to favor some and hide others from view.

    2. As for sex change, you see it as unavoidable. I am old school and see the need as something mentally wrong with that person. But, your are a Liberal and I am not. We will always have our differing opinions, Ed.
Used to be, a man dealt with his issues or got help from a professional. If a person’s insurance will pay for a sex change, try a few years of psychiatric counseling first.

    1. Gee, remember when we didn’t have social media, personal computers or cell phones. We were more relaxed, less stimulation, having no dependence on devices for expression of our beliefs or validation of those beliefs.

  6. It is pretty amazing how in the last few years tweets became newsworthy. I guess that is when the politicians picked it up. Often the local paper is quoting politicos from facebook and tweets. I remember in the early days of twitter I had a few friends and acquaintances who tweeted. And seriously…it was stuff like: “Hey peeps, I got a couple cases of beer and any of you who wanna come to my place to watch the Hawks tonight…well come on over.” And as with most tweets, it was text full of typos since big fingers can be difficult on small phone keyboards. I swear that form of communication with bad spelling and grammar is not helping increase brain power.

  7. Were it not for social media, this thread would be non-existent.

Does Inslee even look at Dori’s tweets?

What response would Dori expect from Inslee if he delivered the message in person, complete with the five “HA”s?

What was Dori’s point in the first place, just to prove to Inslee, and to himself, that he’s funnier, hipper and cooler than the rest of us?

    1. Some people do play-by-play of events through Twitter. It seems, Dori is amused and bewildered by transgenders, queers and others of the alphabet deviants. Hence, it comes up in the heat of the debate. For his comment, Dori could have gone to social media prison for a week. Instead, he gets suspended, and that won’t end well. In his efforts to entertain, he triggered some snowflakes. They so easily get their panties in a twist. They seem to seek rejection, so they can react.

  8. I wondered when the Seattle Cancel Culture would come for him. Having an opinion is a crime to the left. I hope he doesn’t apologize and stands up for what he believes.

BTW that post is how the majority of Americans believe.

Thank you Mr Remington for providing this space. (Alienating anyone who isn’t American? I believe Parker is a bit out of touch. lol)

    1. Thank you, Louis.
I have emailed Dori, urging him NOT to apologize. It is his choice. An apology would be empty words, a sham.
We live in a world where the mentally deficient, unwashed, sexually deviant, have influenced the media, corporate entities and politics. It is up to right-minded Americans to stand by the truth and reject the Godless heathens, in all their forms.

  9. Everyone assumes a lofty motive for KIRO’s making Dori go sit in the corner, but I haven’t read a mention here nor seen a press release from KIRO regarding the actual reason.

Okay, time for the obvious truth. It was (take a breath) money! Sponsors may self-righteously boycott the miscreant’s program to make themselves appear noble, and this usually has some domino effect. There could even be a rowdy bus ride from Capitol Hill to Eastlake Ave. & E. Howe St.

Behind the scenes, Dave Ross has written the script for a public apology and dress rehearsal has already taken place. There will be dewy eyes, hand wringing and hearty asexual virtual hugs. Jay Inslee will take a hiatus from campaigning to attend the ceremony in his dual role as governor and stringer for The Daily Olympian. Jason Rantz will go back to whatever he was doing.

    1. I enjoy your cynical, yet realistic commentary here!…According to Monson, none of us have to feel sorry for him…he has been not so subtly crowing for years, as to his financial security, great family values, plans for retirement, etc…Then again, he has been consistently high-rated for listenership…and we know that ratings rule in radio!…I, like you, assume, after the smoke clears from his ears, he will bite the bullet, apologize in a general way, and continue to pull down the high salary he gets….after all, conservatives value money and status above all else!

      1. I have received a complaint or two from the Liberal Left concerning my views. Something about tolerance. I have no tolerance for the Liberal Left. They are the first to shout for tolerance, yet are the least tolerant when someone has a view opposite theirs. I have no time for those fools. This is not NPR.

        1. Jason,

I had a radical left person threatened me on Facebook that he would call my employer and get me fired because I didn’t agree about Dori getting suspended and I called out the Leftist Socialists for their comments. That is how they act!!!! They are very dangerous to our country I love so much!!!!

  10. Mr. Remington,

I really, really dislike what you have done with the echo chamber you have curated for yourself on this webpage.

Besides your very poor coverage of the PNW media, you have also managed to alienate anyone, literally anyone, who also calls themselves an American.

It might be really hard for you to understand, Mr. Remington, but there are actually people living among you who do not think or act or conflate in the same ways you have here.
Perhaps, and I’m only spitballing here, if you took more than 5 seconds to consider how the marginalized community within Dori’s target could take offense then maybe you’d recognize how your fabled ‘Christian Love’ can be applied towards those who repeatedly request love, respect and understanding in the face of blatant bigotry and violence.

Instead, as is painfully obvious, your commentary here is purely a knee-jerk reaction. You seem beside yourself with incredulity when a private company chose, on its own, how it wanted to handle very public statements made by one of its very public employees who concurrently enjoys a very public relationship with another very public and very successful private enterprise.
There is no state involvement here.
Nowhere has any city, county, state or federal agency played any part whatsoever.
Each action and reaction, from beginning to end, is entirely within the realm of what you might already hold as holy. The ‘Free Market.’

If you have forgotten lessons regarding capitalist doctrine, which should have been taught to you in primary school, this should be a simple refresher: ‘A free enterprise economy has five important characteristics. They are: economic freedom, voluntary (willing) exchange, private property rights, the profit motive, and competition.’
Of course, for anyone who is paying attention, the above paradigm not only requires companies to steal labor from their employees, it is also unsustainable as should be obvious to literally anyone who has eyeballs currently connected to a brain.

Mr. Bad-Take Dori here has not been silenced by some overtly hostile agent of the state. Nor is the state forcing him to share his blatantly bigoted comments. Rather, those who employ him, ironically a church, decided on its own his commentary may not best reflect their interest in hoarding wealth and instead decided to punish him, if only temporarily.

Conversely, people similar to Mr. Remington, applaud when private enterprise violate the constitutionally protected rights of our neighbors.
Public accommodation, for some conservatives, apparently does not include a protected class recently affirmed by the current Supreme Court.
Conservatives collectively flipped out when bakers or florists decided the law did not apply to them, because *checks notes* they believe discrimination of a marginalized people enjoys supernatural approval.

So, which is it, Mr. Remington?

Does private enterprise hold a right for whom they can serve, but definitely not enjoy a right for whom they employ?
Or is your insistence that justice somehow can be found inversly?

It’s just, Mr. Remington, your entire line of logic is so stupefying and absurd, it is literally exhausting trying to understand how someone with any eduction whatsoever could come to the same conclusions as you have offered within this post.
Rather, had you carefully how you arrived to the deeply offensive conclusion above, perhaps you wouldn’t look and sound like the entirely unreasonable man as you do now.

Also, as far as your assertion that America needs to be ‘cleansed,’ this reader in particular does not require further analysis.
Your intent is as obvious as it is un-American.

Moreover, as you use words like ‘Christian’ and ‘Patriot’ to support the ‘cleansing’ of your fellow countrymen, it is painfully clear that you, Mr. Remington, are neither patriotic nor a man of faith.

Americans by definition do not advocate mass murder.
    Again.
Americans do not advocate mass murder.

Sociopaths and authoritarians and war criminals have repeatedly ‘cleansed’ peoples throughout the ages, and many of their crimes have been so thoroughly documented to remind all of humanity they should never again repeat.

    Yet.
    Here you are, Mr. Remington.
Advocating the wholesale murder of your very neighbors.
Your suggestion is reprehensible, disgusting and intolerable.

Even more startling, many of your colleagues connected to this website appear to endorse conspiracy after another, espousing patently false information and dangerous rhetoric.
Did I visit every link and post? No, I do not wish to harm myself by reading such ignorance.

What is patently clear is this: You are not a man of faith, nor are you a patriot.
Instead, you are an aberration to the ideals of which you think you hold dear.

Now that you have tried your hardest to retain relevance while bolstering support for Mr. Dori, it sure would be interesting to see his reaction to your suggestion fellow Americans need be cleansed.

Congratulations, Mr. Remington. Your own words within this single post helps the rest of us understand exactly what you are: A fascist.
If you truly care whatsoever about integrity or the power of the press, you should have no problem sharing this response.

Your homework: Investigate the paradox of tolerance.

    Do better.

    1. Radical Left calling me a facist. That is Parker Molloy, writer for Medium, some nickel and dime Leftist rag. Read him/her/it’s posts and discover he/she is Far Left and Anti-Trump. Claims to be tolerant, a word they like to throw at those they oppose. Yet, they are far from tolerant.
Such indignance. I think cleansing is in order. He/She should start with an enema.

Parker Marie Molloy is an American male, wannabe female, writer, blogger, and transgender rights activist. Molloy was an editorial and news contributor to Advocate.com, focusing on transgender issues.

Transgenders are very confused people. It is a mental issue, that may require intense therapy, not parades and flag-waving. Parker Molloy also has anger issues, methinks.
But, to get to the bottom of all of his/her issues, Parker Molloy would need to seek professional services and accept that he/she has issues. That would be the first step.

If you would like to debate Parker Molloy, this is the email address he/she gave when signing in to Comment. I don’t think you can reach him/her/it at you.are.terrible.fashy.too@gmail.com but it shows where he/she is at mentally. Parker Molloy is ANTI-FAcist. What group has that name? The same group that tore up Portland and Seattle. No deep dive into his/her psyche needed, to understand his/her political stance.

    2. I’m an Independent, not conservative, but that’s the biggest pile of BS I’ve ever read. BTW, I lived under communist rule, and maintain 750 hours of communism credits from college.

  11. Yes. At KVAC the transmitter was behind the jock and the tower was next to the window. On my first day a jock held a light tube in the air and said “watch this.” Seconds later it lit up.

I went to Forks from . . . Hollywood, where I’d worked at JBL Sound and held grunt positions in kid’s TV. I had intended to return to L.A. and conquer the market, but while at KVAC I received an actual offer: Wenatchee. Seattle was the last stop.

    1. Lee,

If you ever write your memoirs, that second paragraph will have to be the introduction.

Best laugh I’ve had all day!

      1. Forks and Hollywood aren’t that different. Or maybe they are – it’s been too long to accurately recall.

As for the remainder of my memoirs, Bill O’Reilly is currently working on my unauthorized biography: Killing Radio.

  12. I see that Jason Remington put some time in at KVAC so maybe the transmitter and tower, one inside and the other virtually inside the studio, cooked his brain, causing a severe case of conservatism? Being an alumnus of KVAC myself, maybe that’s what happened to me, too — and Don Ice was one of the nicest radiomen I ever met, as was Steve Agbaba.

In any event I concur with Jason’s premise that the Seattle media has become a Leftist freak show. It was well into left field when I worked that market and now it’s somewhere out in the parking lot, left of left field.

As for Dori Monson, I don’t know him well but we’ve exchanged a few emails over the decades; enough of them that I would question the motives of anyone who suggests that he is anything less than an honorable man.

    1. From KVAC, I went to KDFL/Sumner, which had a similar transmitter setup, right behind the jock. The tower was in the field across from the control room window. In the summertime, that transmitter really contributed to a hot studio.

      1. At KURB, the transmitter was in the control room, right behind the jock. Sometimes, when you opened the mike, one of the tubes got so hot you could feel it through the glass a foot away and it was about as bright as the sun. There’d be a big loud buzz coming from inside the transmitter enclosure that could be heard clear out in the office if the control room door was open.

  13. I do not get where religion comes into play here…my gripe is this…why would any corporation feel they have the right to censor an employee who is tweeting? Individual viewpoints expressed on personal sites should be off-limits to censorship/punishment!…I think it is called freedom of speech…I am not a Dori fan, but he has a right to his personal opinions, as long as he is using his own form of social media!

  14. I listened for a minute the first day he was on the air. The hype was that he had some unrelated job at KIRO and was being “given a chance” to see if he could do a talk show after his endless whining that nobody was as good as he would surely be.

I don’t see why one station would necessarily program for both Christians and Patriots. KCMS, KCIS and KBLE are already locally available for Christians. I hear that a few evangelicals have access to microphones too.

But it’s those under-served (And patriotic!) Bandorai, Atheists, Druids, Agnostics, Satanists and Scientologists who deserve a government-funded worldwide broadcasting platform. The B.A.D.A.S.S. Network! It might employ an intracranial iPhone to achieve instant dominance of its desired demographic. You’ll never walk alone.

    1. I see that you are being politically correct (is that an oxymoron?) lumping Atheists with Scientologists. I don’t think one radio station can support both. A radio station has to fill a niche. Satanists, witches, and warlocks can be served with one station, but Atheists would not listen to a station that also serves Scientologists. Just as I, a Conservative, can’t keep my lunch down if I hear NPR.

  15. KIRO will become part of the Leftist freak show that radio has become. Maybe podcasting and independent media is the only way to get truth across to those who still have the IQ to understand the truth.

    1. Jason,

I support Dori Monson on this one. I am getting sick of our media supporting the leftist Socialist movement!!!!. Bonneville needs to be called out for their actions against Dori. Bonneville is part of Latter Day Saints Of Jesus Christ(Mormons). They would agree with what Dori said. We need to stand up as true Patriots of America and not put up with this Socialist garbage!!!!!!
