Our latest Phantom Station we examine has conflicting call letters as listed in “Broadcasting Yearbook” & “Radio Annual”. After considerable research, I believe that KTRN is correct, not KTPN. 1430 KTRN was licensed & issued a construction permit (CP) by the FCC in 1941

The station was listed in the 1941 & 1942 editions of “Radio Annual” as KTPN which I believe is incorrect.

There is no evidence this station was ever built or operated & by 1943, the license had been deleted & listings removed. 1430 would soon be allocated to Mt Vernon in 1946 for KBRC. It’s interesting to note in the “Radio Annual” listings, it shows KTPN (KTRN) as having a license for ‘unlimited’ air time. KBRC began as a “daytimer” operating from 6am – sunset & wouldn’t receive night operation authority until 1952.
