Are you like me? (I don’t mean 6’2″ and rather stocky build). I find more entertainment and fewer commercials on PODCASTS and devote most of my time spent listening to audio entertainment/information on-demand. That’s the way uh-huh, uh-huh, I like it, uh-huh, uh-huh. RADIO has some great competition with the available podcasts. Radio must find a way to compete with podcasts and mp3 players. I foresee radio NOT adapting, but dying a slow death instead. Tell me why I am wrong. The numbers argue that radio remains strong. The audience for terrestrial radio remains steady and high: In 2017, 90% of Americans ages 12 and older listened to terrestrial radio in a given week, according to Nielsen Media Research data published by the Radio Advertising Bureau, a figure that has changed little since 2009. In 2018, 44% of U.S. cellphone owners say they have listened to online radio in a car using a phone, up from just 6% in 2010. (PEW Research Center). So, maybe not everyone is bored with the same 200 tunes and 20 minutes of commercials each hour…102.9 (running iHeart Smooth Jazz) and 104.9 (iHeart Christian music) have sat in the time-out section for quite some time now. No buyers? I can understand an AM station having little interest, but an FM in a market this size should be scooped up rather quickly…Nexstar will be the largest owner of tv stations, once the Tribune deal wraps. Sinclair would be second, followed by Gray and Tegna.
