the original KZAM was an innovative, if short-lived station & the motivation for me as a teen to buy my first AM/FM radio – a GE portable AC/DC unit. To my young ears it was an exciting station with a different sound & vibe form the top 40 AM powerhouses. The airstaff is a ‘who’s who’ of Sea-Tac urban radio, some of them already veterans of 10 years or more serving Sea-Tac African-American listeners & enthusiasts. Many would eventually end up at KZAM’s “successor” KYAC 1460 who would pick up the format after 92.5’s demise & sale to Kemper Freeman’s KFKF. The unique opportunity for Sea-Tac school students to host on KZAM would pre-date the school district’s KNHC 89.5 also staffed by students.
