  1. If I remember right, Carlos del Valle took over for Ventrella. Silvi worked weekends until del Valle went to Los Angeles.

Television viewers have a few more months to watch KING-TV’s Carlos Del Valle before his career heads south.

      Southern California, that is.

Del Valle, sports anchor for KING, accepted a job as weekend sports anchor at KNBC-TV in Los Angeles, KING announced yesterday. Both stations are affiliates of NBC, though Los Angeles is the second-largest television market in the country.

Del Valle probably will continue to work at KING for “another one to two months,” the station said. His departure date is being negotiated.

“This opportunity was definitely difficult to turn down,” Del Valle said, “especially when you consider 13.5 million viewers will be watching you every day. New York may be the No. 1 market but let’s face it, Los Angeles is really perceived as the media capital of the world.”

Del Valle began working for KING in 1983 as a sports reporter. He was named weekend anchor in 1991 and began anchoring weekday broadcasts in 1993. He has also hosted the Seahawk pregame and postgame shows. He came to KING from KCPQ in Tacoma, where he was the station’s sports director.

“He has made valuable contributions to the success of KING 5 News,” News Director Andy Beers said. “We haven’t made a decision about his replacement. We will be conducting a nationwide search.”

Del Valle’s boss will be KNBC News Director Bill Lord, recently the news director at KIRO-TV.

  2. 1984, Ventrella comes to KING 5 from WANE tv, Fort Wayne, Indiana. 1993–Silvi comes to KING 5, Ventrella moves to KIRO. After KIRO (2002) , Ventrella went to KCPQ for 2 years.

    1. Ventrella first TV gig was KOMO 4 and, then, KING 5, and later, KIRO 7. I think he is the only person to work on all three major TV stations in Seattle
