Victor Stredicke 1986 radio Christmas highlights

Some original programming and very familiar holiday programming is scheduled for Christmas.
KIRO resurrects “a Christmas Carol,” a done for radio version of Charles Dickens’ classic tale produced by Jim French and Terry Rose. The hour production uses the voices of KIRO radio personalities along with other local talents. The program airs at 7 PM Christmas Eve on KIRO, 710 kHz.

It looks like lots of fun for South King County listeners if they tune in Tacoma’s KTAC, 850 kHz. The station’s Christmas Eve features include a call-in talk show for kids, with Santa, at 3 PM. That is followed by half-hour radio dramas titled “Scrooge” and “The Littlest Angel,” produced at the station, and a syndicated feature titled “A Lullaby Christmas.”

Some stations start solid Christmas music at noon Tuesday, but most at 6 PM, and then most of them uninterrupted through noon or 6 PM Christmas Day.

A performance by the Pacific Lutheran University choir is part of the all-day package of music features on “The CBS Cavalcade of Christmas music,” available nationwide to CBS radio affiliates. KIRO will run the feature from 9:30 AM Christmas Day. The PLU segments will be at 9:35 AM and 3:35 PM.

If your interest in the season is astronomical, KTOY, at 91.7 MHz, in Tacoma, has a “Winter Solstice” concert of dulcimer music, at 6:30 PM, Monday.

Concluding a three-month search, KING FM has named Peter Newman, a member of the stations announcing staff, as new program director. Newman had been operations manager since 1980 and filling in programming needs during the vacancy.
He has been with KING since 1977 when he began as morning announcer. He currently hosts the “Afternoon Concert” and “Commuter Concert” segments as well as the Monday night “Seattle Concert Preview.”
Newman said his goals include the strengthening of working relationships with Seattle performing groups and the continuation of programs with local groups in concert.
