  1. Hello,

As far back as mid 1976 John Babcock, Sr. VP of Park Broadcasting and I approached Jessica Longston (spelling?) about purchasing 1150 KAYO. She was not ready to sell as of that time. Country and beautiful music in Portland at KWJJ and KJIB were a good money maker then. It seemed logical too for Seattle. She did not see our logic even with proposed revenue sharing for a few years.

John and I also wanted to change KEZX to a more “KOMO” like sound as there were so many FM’s in Seattle were doing beautiful music. We were in the process of upgrading from 35KW to nearly 100KW with new equipment. I was tasked to talk to Larry Nelson about coming on as our AM drive personality and Bill Whipple from KIRO for news. Larry laughed as he had the best deal in Seattle and Whipple may have joined, as we had Gene Henderson (KIRO Public Pulse) doing public affairs – but alas Park was cheap and we continues with K Sleepy X FM nighty night.
