[EDITED] Thunderbay Communications took control of KIXI AM & FM this month and placed Gordon Stenback as general manager of the two stations. Stenback hired Mike Dirkx, from KGW Portland, as operations manager and program director. They researched and decided there was a gap in the market. Station call letters were changed to KLTX FM, dropping the K-Lite moniker. The AM remained KIXI with no change in format, while the FM switched to music for an older audience, adding morning news and traffic reports. The format falls somewhere between KMGI and KSEA…
Ric Austin is gone from KQKT. Rick Austin has left KTAC. Ric, (without the K), returns to his home turf, Dallas. Rick (with a K) has left the business. ..Olympia’s KTOL has been sold to Matthew Clapp Jr. The transfer is subject to FCC approval. The AM stereo station was started in 1983 by John DiMeo Sr. DiMeo was once the general manager at KAYO. Clapp is a partner in several stations in Aberdeen, Mount Vernon, and Anchorage…Bob Robertson has added a nightly one-hour sports talk show to his duties. The KAMT AM feature airs at 6 p.m. This is in addition to his play-by-play broadcasts of Tacoma Tigers baseball on KAMT 1360 and his sports reports on 950 KJR…Two Penny’s have been added to the staff at KENE-KHRK Yakima. Penny Tucker, morning news and traffic reporter at KRPM is the KENE-KHRK station manager and Penny Taylor, from KSTW TV, has been hired as the new sales manager…Dana Horner, GM at KLSY AM & FM, left May 1st to enter a radio-related business in Dallas… The new GM at KLSY is Tim Davidson, former station manager at KING FM and KING-AM, sequentially…new nighttime dj at KZOK is T.J. Killorin, from Boulder, CO… George Lindsay has become the new morning personality at KQKT 96.5 FM.
