Media Crime File: Of Meth & Men

And now, another in a series of hard news stories related to what we see as a growing epidemic – a wave of crime sweeping across the broadcasting industry. These gritty tales of the darkside of the media nationwide, and the players behind these despicable acts, will appear as details become available. All details will remain UNCENSORED.

Former Twin Cities sports radio personality Jeff Dubay was sentenced August 5th for drug possession, his second felony drug conviction since 2008. Washington County District Judge Susan Miles sentenced Dubay to 180 days in jail and 10 years probation. Dubay was also to complete a treatment program for controlled substances and pay a $50 fine.
Cottage Grove police stopped Dubay in April for driving 50 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone. There was a warrant out for his arrest from Wright County for driving without insurance. A search turned up two unused hypodermic needles in his back pocket, 31 used needles in a bag on the front seat and a small piece of paper that held a trace amount of methamphetamine. His driver’s license had been suspended.
Dubay, a former Twins batboy, had been a longtime co-host with Paul Allen on KFAN. He was fired after he was arrested in 2008 for cocaine possession. He entered a yearlong diversion program but flunked out. He then was offered participation in Substance Abuse Court, but flunked out of that, too.
In 2010, he was ordered to spend 87 days in the Ramsey County workhouse after admitting he again used cocaine in May of that year.
Dubay returned to the airwaves on 1500 ESPN, but was let go after a year in 2014 in a cost-cutting move. At the time of his most recent arrest, he was hosting a sports-oriented podcast.
