1980 Milestones

February 1980 – KVI adopts Talk format.
March 1980 – Metromedia buys KJR for $10 million . .. Frank Colbourn leaves PD position at KPLZ / KSEL Lubbock’s PD Jeff King exits to assume similar position at KPLZ ….
April 1980 – KVI re-joins the Mutual Network
April 1980 – KYAC goes silent as unpaid employees walk off job.
May 1980 – KYAC returns to air with volunteer staff after employees walk off due to nonpayment by station owners .
June 1980 – KZOK appoints Nils Von Veil as PD. Tony Stone leaves PD duties at KYYX to become MD at KSLQ St. Louis.
July 1980 – David Jones joins KPLZ doing afternoon drive, exiting from his PD position at KQEQ Albuquerque.
September 1980 – lcabod Caine leaves KJR to join KNBQ as morning personality.
November 1980 – Scott Burns joins KJR handling the AM drive slot.

    Sadly this was the end of KYAC, a station that always struggled, but much loved by a small, dedicated group of listeners. Hmmm…I wonder whatever DID become of the “Reverend” Don Dudley?? 🙂
