November 18, 1984 – Don Imus, the irascible New York disc jockey, will be a video jockey on the new cable video music service, Video Hits One, when it debuts in January 1. VH1 will be the MTV networks second 24 hour video music service.
Challenger Broadcasting Corporation, a Seattle-based company, has placed a new 24 hour country music station, KYSN, on the air in Wenatchee. Principles in the company are William Baldwin, attorney, should and Nick Schmidt, investor and rancher. The firm has also acquired a portion of the common stock ownership of KTOL, Olympia.
Anacortes station KAGT has changed its name to KLKI. Some people called it “kagit” as it Skagit, Bob Barry, program director, said the old name was unusable in jingles. Pointing to the new letters L, K, and I, Barry said the new station now is referred to as Lucky 13. Morning announcer at the station is Don Chapman, former KOMO personality. Chapman purchased part ownership from William Barry, the majority owner, a former Aberdeen school chum.
NOTE: The Anacortes radio station went through six bankruptcies since first going on air in 1957.
