Don Carlisle, off-air name Whitey Gann, was one of the most interesting characters I’ve met. Yes, he was the proverbial gruff trucker with a heart of gold. He wanted to be on the air, but his delivery was anything but smooth. So while I was manager of little KURB, we added the motorcycle reports. Whitey (so called because his hair was white as snow, not gray as Stredicke said) would do anything he could think of to promote our 250-watt daytimer, or to help any member of the staff who needed a favor.
