After weathering the Get KAYO'd news/talk format, the return to country, I was the news director as KAYO segued into KSPL (K-Special, get it?), or as morning man Jerry Kay mirthfully intoned, K-Spleen. Jerry and I were summarily dispatched from KSPL on Christmas Eve 1982. Severance checks in hand, we boxed up our headphones, the other odds and ends in our cubicles, and headed next door to Andy's Diner, where we found solace and wisdom about the exigencies of life in a heroic number of Andy's famous martinis.
