Smile-shaming Lecturer Called Out By Q13 Story Teller

Brandi Kruse angrily responded to a UW Tacoma teacher who complained that the tv story teller did not smile enough. This criticism hit Kruse hard. She called it SEXIST. She was OFFENDED. It was almost as if he had [Warning: Do not read further if your sensibilities are easily bruised!!] … fat-shamed her.

KTTH radio story-teller, Jason Rantz, posted an online expose of “tweets” from what [MyNorthwest.com] radio story-teller Rantz called, a NOTORIOUS LECTURER. Wayne Lynch had the gall to critique public personalities/media folk.

Between lecturing at the UW and through online social media, Wayne Lynch has gained a reputation, among tv story-tellers, for ruffling feathers with commentary about what he believes is the unprofessional behavior of a few story-tellers. Lynch complained that KCPQ 13 anchor Travis Mayfield lost credibility by doing a dance on a newscast, he criticized KXLY news director Melissa Luck about posting pictures of herself online. Lynch didn’t think Luck was a good looking woman. He suggested she not keep posting photos, as it’s “awkward and unnecessary.” Luck was, understandably, OFFENDED.

RANTZ: When Luck asked him to stop insulting her, via a direct message, Lynch got defensive, claiming it was “constructive criticism” before calling her a “narcissist.”

Rantz has directly questioned whether Lynch is qualified to teach.

RANTZ: Lynch teaches college students? It’s hard to tell if Lynch is just especially incompetent at giving what he thinks is constructive criticism to journalists he has no business critiquing or if he’s just a sad and angry former news director desperately trying to stay relevant in a media landscape that no longer has a place for him. Either way, his conduct is inappropriate and rude. And it begs the question: Is he the best person to teach at UW-Tacoma?

  1. Yeah, after all, news anchors dancing on Tik-Tok and plastering X.com with selfies really ups the ratings and keeps viewers tuning in.
