Kim Powell Leaves KTVK 3/KPHO 5 Phoenix

After 10 years in TV news, I’m hanging up the microphone, the bold colored dresses, and hairspray.
This was not an easy decision by any means. Being a news reporter/anchor was my dream since I was 10 years old. I’m proud I can tell my younger self we did it—and we kicked ass at it!
From Las Vegas, NV to Midland, TX to Fort Myers, FL and finally Phoenix, AZ—I’ve covered some amazing stories that will restore your faith in humanity. Though, I’ve also covered terrible, unthinkable tragedies. I’ve stood in the gusting winds of a hurricane, on top of tornado rubble, knee deep in floodwaters, and in barren deserts. And let’s not forget that whole viral rapping video. It’s been a hell of a ride.
Somewhere along the way, I was told to reevaluate my goals. This broke my heart more than I can explain. However, I took that advice (to an extent, I’m stubborn) and after reevaluating, I found myself outside of the news industry with new priorities in mind: a life with less stress, less criticism on my appearance and personality, and a normal schedule to spend more time with friends and family. Who knows, maybe I’ll even have time for some hobbies!
To the families who have invited me into their homes on their worst days, I will never forget you. To those who have followed me since my early days in news, I appreciate your support! And to my photogs, producers, everyone behind the scenes, and fellow reporters, you’ve made this a tremendous journey.

I am the new Communications Officer for the Maricopa County Animal Shelter! It’s the perfect way to combine my passion for storytelling with my passion for animals!
More importantly, please meet Violetta!
She’s been at the shelter since April and I can’t imagine why! She prefers to be the only animal in your life, but she is a total sweetheart and loves to cuddle!
Come visit the MCACC West to meet her!
