I’ve always been interested in the comics of long ago! My grandfather’s cousin was Benjamin Priteca, who was the architect for the Pantages Theaters in Seattle and many other locations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B._Marcus_Priteca Benny’s first structure was the Coliseum Theater at 5th and Pike in downtown Seattle. It was designed for Joe Gottstein. Later Benny designed Long Acres Race Track for Joe!
History is not so kind to some- but in the case of Alexander Pantages … he reaped what he sowed. Alexander Pantages was a Greek American vaudeville impresario and early motion picture producer. He created a large and powerful circuit of theatres across the western United States and Canada.
At the height of his empire, he owned or operated 84 theatres across the United States and Canada.
In 1929, he was accused of raping a 17-year-old dancer named Eunice Alice Pringle; the negative publicity led to the selling of his operations and he ceased to be a force in exhibition or vaudeville ever again. He is largely forgotten today in historical accounts of the early development of motion pictures. He died in 1936 worth only a fraction of his previous net worth.
Jason,
Pantages was convicted of the crime and after the conviction, he retained the noted attorney Jerry Geisler. In a second trial, he was exonerated. I think the trauma’s from the trials shortened his life.
And NOW, we know…..the REST of the story.
So, maybe he was victim of an early PoundMeToo scam, possibly from one of Amber Heard’s ancestors.
