QZVX “Answer Desk”: Fun Times at KAYE & No Mono At KLAY

We get questions. People write us, asking things like: “Hey! Did anyone ever have fun times at radio station KAYE?”
and “Hey! Were there any stereo programs on KLAY FM?”

We have answers. From February 1965, this program log for KAYE and KLAY…
It appears that daytime was more fun than nighttime at KAYE, but you could switch over to KLAY FM and hear something in STEREO just about anytime, except at daybreak and dinner time.

If KAYE programming was broadcast on F-M in S – T – E – R – E – O — that would have just been INSANE! Too much FUN!!!

  1. This must have been early 65. No listing for Herb Smiles. Sandy Hamilton hosted a top 40 show from 63 till 65. Sandy was replaced by Herb. Sandy made it to KOL and later KJR. I understand that Bobby Simon and Dick Curtis once worked at KAYE in the 50,s.

  2. KGEZ, in 1966, had “Eddie’s Bread Time”. In the ’70’s, Charlie Douglas and The Road Gang had “King Edward Cigar Time” on WWL.

  3. All that Fun Time on KAYE reminded me of my growing up years in the Tri-Cities, listening to top-40 daytimer KORD, where every time check in the hot desert months was either “Summer Fun Time” or “Suntan Turnover Time.”

    1. “The time on the ol’ clock on the wall is 4:15, KUJ tune time” Wherever that sort of thing started, it caught on across the nation. Mostly in small markets.
