Sinclair Broadcast Group (KOMO & KUNS – Seattle) has been hit with a cyber attack this past weekend. As of Monday evening, the stations struggle with loss of operational networks, master control functions, telephone communications and theft of data from the company’s network. Servers and workstations were encrypted with ransomware, bringing operations to a halt on Saturday. The company has launched an investigation involving legal counsel, a cybersecurity forensics firm, law enforcement and certain government agencies.
Stations have issues with operations including graphics, programming, and provision of local sponsor advertisements.
Sinclair controls 21 regional sports network brands while owning and operating 185 television stations in 86 markets.
Viewers took to Twitter and Reddit to report confusion over outages in their local markets.
