Salem Reacquires KKOL, KING 5 Loses Craig Herrera & Brit Moorer, KREM Loses One To San Diego

June 22, 2021 – Salem Media Group has agreed to purchase 1300 KKOL from Tron Din Doh’s Intelli LLC for $500,000. KKOL has been operating mostly under STA since acquired by Intelli. KKOL is currently operating with its 3.2kW nighttime power all day due to interference being caused by its licensed 50kW daytime operation.

The deal marks a reacquisition of the station, which Salem had traded to Intelli in 2018 for what is now Conservative Talk “860 The Answer” KPAM Troutdale/Portland OR. Salem began reoperating KKOL via Time Brokerage Agreement on June 7. KKOL rejoins Christian Preaching “820 The Word” KGNW Burien-Seattle, Conservative Talk “1590 The Answer” KLFE Seattle and Regional Mexican “La Patrona 1680” KNTS Seattle. [RadioInsight.com]

June 24, 2021 — FOX Weather, FOX News Media’s new AVOD streaming weather service, has signed six meteorologists to helm morning, daytime and evening programming across the platform, announced Sharri Berg, president of FOX Weather. Meteorologists Jason Frazer, Britta Merwin, Craig Herrera, Brigit Mahoney, Nick Kosir, and Stephen Morgan will lead the platform’s weather coverage once the streaming service launches later this year.

In making the announcement, Berg said, “We are very excited to announce this first team of very talented meteorologists who will anchor our coverage from the FOX Weather studio headquarters in New York City. They each bring their own unique perspective and local experience from all regions across the country, as we begin to grow our national platform.”

Five time local Emmy-award winning meteorologist Craig Herrera joins FOX Weather as a co-anchor of the platform’s key programming blocks. Most recently serving as Seattle’s KING-TV (NBC) meteorologist, Herrera is a Pacific Coast weather expert having covered every major weather event spanning San Diego to Seattle. An American Meteorology Society (AMS) sealed meteorologist, he was a part of the weekday morning news team at San Francisco’s KNTV-TV (NBC) on the weather reporting team at KCBS-TV, in Los Angeles and San Diego’s KGTV-TV (ABC). He received his certificate in Broadcast Meteorology from the University of Mississippi. [BusinessWire.com]

AVOD is free to consumers. However, much like broadcast television, consumers need to sit through advertisements.

SVOD is similar to traditional TV packages, allowing users to consume as much content as they desire at a flat rate per month.

TVOD is the opposite of subscription video, where consumers purchase content on a pay-per-view basis.

Premium content owners rarely use AVOD as it generates lower amounts of revenue than SVOD and TVOD.

    1. Yes, I think that is the direction for radio. A San Francisco station tried a “podcast format” but that really can’t be done with the constraints of hourly station ID and the sporadic nature of most podcasts, which don’t run a standard 60 minutes. Joe Rogan podcasts can run 1 hr 30 min to 3 hrs. Radio will become digital online and the local aspect will be hard to come by. As the newspaper industry dies out, it will be interesting to see how local news continues to be streamed. Broadcast tv and FCC restrictions on it will also eventually fade out.

  1. KING/SEATTLE was one of my favs of all time in my 53 years on LIVE RADIO EVEN though in later years I was in Mornings My favorite was nights KING and also KREM/SPOKANE freedom on air and being a TRUE RADIO AIR PERSONALITY and because I never DRUGS I’m still alive today in Retirement!!!!
