      1. I miss KZAM at its birth in the 60’s with soul music, rhythm and blues, and network news from the International Negro Radio Service.

        I’ve never forgotten the day my racist father walked in from work while I was listening to KZAM and uttered the immortal words, “Is that – – – – a (gasp) – – – a – – – a – – Negro?”

It was fun to watch his eyes bulge as he contemplated and eagerly awaited the end of the world.

      2. I currently have a framed poster of a KZAM & FM Presents Doc & Merle Watson Concert at the Opera House • Seattle Center, featuring a wonderful drawing of Doc with musical notes flowing from his guitar pickin’ fingers, hanging on my front room wall. They really did play a little bit of everything on KZAM! Here’s a little something (circa 1980) to help boost your KZAM memories:

  1. For me, “The Mountain” will always be the format that followed “Oceans of beautiful music…”

      1. I knew it! (lol) Everybody knows that the bird is the word. Onetime Brent was on the air doing a break during a very windy, stormy night about 3 a.m. when a seagull was flying at a standstill outside the window. I think that was the stations mascot. The K-bird seagull.

  2. I loved The Mountain because it was an FM station that sounded like an FM station. It played good music, not just what the best selling records were for week.

    1. The Mountain (KMTT-FM) was the last Seattle radio station that I listened to with any consistency. It reminded me somewhat of KINK-FM Portland, which I frequently listened to while I was at Rockin’ Country KPOK-AM Portland in the mid-to-late 70s. I’m a fan of singer/songwriter (solid lyric based) music, which flourished on both stations. I also really liked KMTT’s feature “Live From The Mountain Music Lounge”. Here’s Ziggy Marley with a sample:
