KKMI 96.5 sign on audio

From the ashes of KYYX & a reorganization of the company owning the station – Madison Park Broadcasting, oldies based AC KKMI 96.5 was born.  Owner Pat O’Day had originally requested the calls KQMY which was to stand for “My 96.5” but these were unavailable.  In spite of the similar “MI” in the call sign, the station never did use the slogan during it’s few years on air in the Seattle market.

Here is a promo for the proposed launch which was supposed to occur on a Friday, but didn’t actually debut until the following Monday morning:

On the final weekend KYYX was on air, here is a promo for the new station done by KKMI DJ “Emperor” Bob Hudson:

KKMI launched on a Monday morning at 5:30 am.  Here is GM & morning personality Pat O’Day signing on the new station.  This clip was much longer but my reel tape was so badly damaged that this was all I was able to salvage from it, which is a pity as Pat introduces all the air staff in that first 15 minutes of broadcasting before rolling some music:

Listing from “Broadcasting Yearbook”  Note to Pat O’Day if he’s reading this:  I’d be happy to share these audio clips with you for your collection if you email me with a request.
