  1. Miss Country Soul, Jeannie Seeley has died

    August 2, 2025 at QZVX

    Dick Ellingson says:

Jeannie had been suffering from many medical problems and passed away in the hospital on Friday, August 1, 2025.

She was the first woman to wear a miniskirt, banned at that time, on stage at the Grand Ole Opry. She talked herself out of trouble with the boss, saying, “If I can’t come in the back door in a miniskirt, you better not let any women in the front door wearing one either!”

Nice quick end to a fuss at the Owl Bar in Anaconda this morning.

It’s doggone heartwarming to know Montana’s guv, Greg Gianforte (R!) is “closely monitoring the situation.” He says, “Please join Susan and me in praying for just everybody.”

The Owl is expressing its respects by extended its popular “2 fer 1” happy hour until closing. Canned beer and well drinks only, saddle tramps.

    • Conjunto defined

      August 1, 2025 at QZVX

      Jason Remington says:

The term conjunto refers to several types of small musical ensembles present in different Latin American musical traditions, mainly in Mexico and Cuba. While Mexican conjuntos play styles such as norteño and tejano, Cuban conjuntos specialize in the son, as well as its derivations such as salsa.

  4. Now we know.

    July 26, 2025 at QZVX

    Dick Ellingson says:

AP reports that eleven shoppers were stabbed today inside a Michigan Walmart. Authorities were seen interviewing employees wearing blue vests and name tags. A shopper in the parking lot said: “It was really scary. Me and my sister were just freaking out. This is something you see out of the movies. It’s not what you expect to see where you’re living.”

Walmart and Governor Gretchen Witmer sent “thoughts” to those involved.

      July 27, 2025 at QZVX

      Jason Remington says:

No prayers? The psychics among the families of the victims were strengthened by the thoughts received in visions.
Governor Gretchen Wilmer then teleported herself and her staff to a luncheon at a country club, away from all the riff-raff.

  6. KING 5 local ownership ends--Aug 26, 1990 - Emmett Watson column

    July 17, 2025 at QZVX

    Jason Remington says:

The proposed sale of KING-TV and the rest of its Northwest empire caused such a ruckus in local gazettes as to make one think an important person had died. In a sense, that is what happened.

The guiding spirit, the conscience, of KING-TV actually died June 27, 1989, when the founding matriarch, Dorothy Bullitt, passed away. Her daughters and heiresses, for better or worse, are now seeking a buyer. (Read the column)

NPR CEO Katherine Maher: Public Radio Funding Cuts ‘Directly Harms Communities and Consituents’ — *** If the public likes to listen to NPR, let each individually donate out of their own pocket. The entire population should not be funding NPR/CPB. With her logic, all newspapers should recive taxpayer funding.

    From king5.com 7/5/25

TACOMA, Wash. — An immigration judge ruled Wednesday to push back the hearing for an Iranian green card holder who has been in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody for several months.

The attorneys representing the United States asked for more time to review the evidence submitted by Milad Aspari’s lawyer. It has been over four months since Aspari, an Iranian green card holder, has been in custody at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma.

    Jason Remington says:

    HEADLINE:
Fox Television Stations CEO cites ownership limits as hurdle for local journalism

“The danger isn’t that news organizations are too big. The danger is that they’re not big enough and financially strong to be independent,” Abernethy said.
He said the station group was innovating to meet the demands of sales clients across linear, social and streaming platforms.
(FCC has initiated deregulatory push with fresh look at station ownership limits)
“We are meeting customers where they are, be it on linear, social or streaming, and doing it with an obsessive focus on innovation, costs and efficiency,” Abernethy said.
Abernethy said journalists must defend both free speech and the free market.
“Local journalism still matters. It matters more than ever. And sure, journalists are quick to defend free speech. But too many are too slow to defend the free market. They must do both,” he said.

Soon we will have fewer megacorps owning a larger number of stations in each market–or one megacorp owning all of them.

  16. Bobbleheads

    June 27, 2025 at QZVX

    Jason Remington says:

With the sound off, watch the three local tv bobbleheads sit at the newsdesk and conversate. As one speaks, the others nod in agreement at him and then nod in agreement to the camera. This is repeated for each speaker, the other two nod in agreement. Nod at the camera. You agree, right? What we are telling you is true. Nod in agreement.
    All so serious.

    Dick Ellingson says:

Abrego is charged with smuggling humans and women and children. A real triple-threat kind of guy.

“Abrego Garcia has landed in the United States to face justice,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said at a news conference in Washington. “He was a smuggler of humans, and women and children.”

    • CBS O&O Atlanta

      June 2, 2025 at QZVX

      Jason Remington says:

Similar to the KSTW/CBS situation in Seattle — moving from COX to their O&O channel 11…could happen!

CBS said WUPA Atlanta will become its new network outlet in that city. The station, which broadcasts on Channel 69, will begin broadcasting CBS programming on Aug. 16.

CBS News & Stations has owned WUPA, currently branded on-air as Atlanta 69, since 1994. Currently an independent, WUPA was an affiliate of The CW from 2006 to 2024.

Effective Aug. 16, WUPA will rebrand as CBS Atlanta and plans to launch a streaming CBS News Atlanta channel, covering the latest regional weather, traffic, local and breaking news.

CBS owns and operates 27 stations in 17 of the country’s biggest markets. It operates a streaming service, CBS News 24/7, which includes streaming news feeds from many of its owned stations.
