KING-5‘s Evening Magazine has done a feature on Jean Suh’s “Radio Hankook” – our region’s Korean language broadcaster via 1450 KSUH Puyallup & 1230 KWYZ Everett. Author Saint Bryan showcases these stations, now in their 20th year of serving Korean listeners in the Puget Sound. The stations offer a variety of programming – from news, various styles of music including K-pop, operating businesses locally, Talk shows, education & public affairs to a small but loyal listening audience. Every year Suh selects six struggling businesses and gives them free advertising. She isn’t earning a fortune.“We are very poor,” she laughs.
Bryan’s article also notes that “Radio Hankook” is an important resource for new members of the Korean community & also profiles businesses scattered throughout the region. Jean hosts her own daily show mixing oldies, poetry, observations & conversation. While “Radio Hankook” may not earn large revenue, it is an interesting opportunity to resurrect a couple of failing AM stations in our region by providing some meaningful programming.
