KOL FM probably led to KZAM, KISW, and KZOK. I was living in Eastern WA at the time so I could be mistaken, but those are the FM stations I remembered. It gave listeners a break from the repetitiveness of AM Top 40 and provided a much clearer signal. I believe the progressive FM stations had a primarily male audience.. They were more likely to have record stores advertising where as top 40 would probably get more advertising from clothing stores.
