I worked at KOQT, just as I was graduating high school. I plan to write an article on the station. Bamford was interesting, a country promoter who was one of the last people to see Hank Williams alive. He began with a Texas daytimer and daytimer KOQT. He ran out of money and interest and sold to Tyrell, whom I spoke with a few months back. He ran out of money and it shut down. Those guys had run country music. Bob Waters from Seattle took it out of bankruptcy in late 69 or early 70. They played a hodge podge of pop and MOR. PD was Les Cole from KTNT, KMO and KOMO. Les had a disagreement and left in short order and they went beautiful music. That was a short experiment, Waters wanted to unload it and Hillcrest Chapel (run by Pastor Richard Ellison) took over and it has been a gospel station ever since. There have been other owners since Ellison and now the daytime power is 50kw. I worked for Waters and Ellison from 1970 to about 1972. I have a few airchecks and jingles from that time.
